Stories

The Strength of a Village and a Human Touch

Providing guidance and support during loss...

Carson's Village was referred by a Chaplain at a hospital for a family after their young son took his own life.  An Advocate immediately contacted the family and they expressed being lost and not knowing where to start or what to do. The Carson’s Village Advocate explained the mission of Carson's Village, reviewed the process, and answered the family’s questions. The Advocate contacted the local funeral home, negotiated prices and then provided the family with the information.  They also worked to help them secure the plot in a local cemetery.  A family page was established that allowed them to raise the funds to put a bench at his school as well as in the community so that he could be remembered.  Additional grief resources were provided, including the free virtual grief group support that Carson's Village provides.

Helping families overcome obstacles...

A Carson’s Village Advocate helped a family who is from Guatemala and the only language they speak is a dialect from their village. One family member did speak Spanish and agreed to translate for the family.  They expressed being lost and not knowing where to start or what to do. The Carson’s Village Advocate explained the mission of Carson's Village, reviewed the process, and answered the family’s questions. The Advocate contacted multiple funeral homes and negotiated prices.  The Advocate provided the family with the information and explained how to select the best funeral home based on their budget and requested services.  Having a live Advocate ensured that the family had all of the support that they needed, when they needed it most.
